Online accounts are needed for almost anything nowadays, which means more passwords to remember. If you don't want to commit so many passwords to memory or write them down somewhere for anyone to find, then you should use a password manager. An excellent example is Padlock, which allows you to store passwords and other sensitive information on the fly. It works as a Google Chrome extension, which makes it much easier to access your database whenever you need to.

Padlock can be installed like any other Chrome extension and you can launch it from the browser's Apps section. It comes with its own user interface, so you won't manage any passwords in Chrome. The application has a modern and elegant design, similar to that of a smartphone and its controls are easy to master. It will display the options you need, depending on the sections you access.

The user interface consists mainly of a list, in which you will find your stored records. New entries can be created by clicking a plus icon, in the upper right corner of the interface, after which you only need to fill in a series of input fields. Besides the username and password fields, you can also create custom fields, if you wish to add more information.

If you can't think of a good enough password, you can use the application's built-in password generator to create long and complex passwords. The information you store in each entry can be hidden and it can be copied to the clipboard, to avoid over-the-shoulder glances. What's more, Padlock comes with a synchronization feature, so you can access your stored password, from Chrome, even when you are on another computer.

Thanks to Padlock's effective functionality, you only need to remember one password, to keep long and complex ones safe and synchronized.

Pros

You can store, protect and synchronize sensitive information. The application lets you create your own custom input fields. It comes with a password generator, to help you create long and complex passwords.

Cons

A field auto-completion feature would be a welcomed addition.
